Servicing all makes of cars and vans

Transit servicing & repairs · Eastbourne

Transits
are what
we do most

We look after Transit vans every week, from servicing and wet belts to turbos, bearings, exhausts and bigger repairs. Tell us what it's doing and we'll work out what's actually wrong.

IN THE WORKSHOP THIS WEEK   Transit Custom wet belt & oil pump  /  Transit clutch & flywheel  /  Injector diagnosis on a work van

Your van needs to work as hard as you do

When your Transit carries your tools and gets you from job to job, being without it is a real problem. Most of the vans in here belong to builders, electricians, plumbers, landscapers and sole traders, who lose a day's money when the van won't start.

So we keep it simple. We tell you what actually needs doing, what can wait, and what it'll cost before we start. We'd rather tell you something can wait than sell you work you don't need.

“If it needs doing, we'll tell you. If it can wait, we'll tell you that too.”

——  Phil, at the garage

What we work on

Transit and Transit Custom work fills most of the diary. If you're not sure what's fitted to your van, give us the registration. It's worth checking rather than guessing.

01Fixed-price servicing→

You know the figure before the van comes in, with the right oil for the engine.

02Wet belts on 2.0 EcoBlue vans→

We check what applies to your van from the registration, not the badge on the back.

03Oil pumps & oil pressure→

Don't ignore an oil-pressure light and hope it goes away. Get it looked at.

04Turbos, injectors & running faults→

Symptoms overlap on these engines, so we diagnose before anyone orders parts.

05Clutches, brakes, suspension→

The parts a loaded working van gets through a lot faster than a car does.

06Exhausts, DPF & emissions→

What short stop-start work around town tends to bring with it eventually.

07Diagnostics→

A warning light doesn't always tell you what has failed. That's why diagnosis matters.

Wet belt: the basics

It's a timing belt that runs inside the engine oil

01Because the belt sits in the oil, the oil matters more than people expect: the right specification, changed when it should be.

02When one starts breaking up, bits of it can end up in the oil system. That's why it's not one to ignore and hope it goes away.

03Tell us how you use the van as well. A Transit doing short stop-start runs every day isn't living the same life as one doing motorway miles.

Fig. 2: conventional belt

Runs dry, outside the oil. We can have a look at it while the van's in for a service.

OIL LEVEL

Sits down in the engine oil, so the oil spec and the service history are part of the job.

Already gone?

If the belt has already failed, don't automatically assume the van is finished. Bring it to us and we'll work out what's happened, what damage has been done and whether it's sensible to repair it. We won't pretend it's nothing, either.

Give us the registration and the mileage and we'll tell you the price and what's included. If we find something else while the van's with us, we'll ring you before we do anything about it.

“Tell us how the van actually gets used. Short town drops and long motorway runs don't wear the same, whatever the mileage says.”

Bring the service history if you've got it. On an engine with a belt running in oil it tells us something useful, not just what the van's worth. If you haven't got it, say so and we'll work from what the van tells us.

Came in smoking and gutless. Diagnosed and sorted, rather than guessing at parts until something worked.

Recovery

Recovered & repaired

Broke down and wasn't going anywhere. We fetched it back to the workshop, found the fault and put it right.

Got more than one van? We can look after the fleet too

You don't need a huge fleet before vehicle downtime starts becoming a headache. If you run a handful of Transits or other vans for your business, we can look after their servicing and repairs and help you keep on top of what's due.

Whether you've got two vans or a larger local fleet, speak to us about keeping them maintained without having to send everything back to a main dealer.

Servicing, spread out

We can work round your jobs so you're not off the road with two vans at once.

One garage that knows the vans

Same workshop every time, so we get to know your vans and how they're used.

A heads-up on what's due

We'll help you keep track of services and belts rather than finding out the hard way.

If your van's off the road, we'll help get it back here

We've got our own recovery van, so the vehicle, the diagnosis and the repair all end up in the same place. One call rather than three.

Can't get the van to us?  ·  Local recovery available

01You ring us

Where you are, what happened and what the van is.

02We fetch it back

Our own recovery van, not a third party who drops it and leaves.

03We find out what's wrong

Properly, before anybody starts ordering parts for it.

04We ring you with a plan

In plain terms, with a price. Then it's your call.

P Hampton Motors sign at Friday Street Farm, Eastbourne

We're petrolheads first and foremost

We spend the working week fixing cars and vans, and then somehow still end up talking about them when we're not working. Phil has been involved in stock cars and banger racing for years, his son races too and works alongside him, and there's always been an interest in classics and project cars as well.

That matters because we still enjoy solving problems. Race car, old classic or a Transit that needs to be on site at 7am tomorrow, we like getting to the bottom of what's wrong and putting it right. It doesn't mean we'll bore you with jargon.

“The cheapest repair isn't always the right repair. The most expensive one isn't automatically necessary either.”

Transits are a big part of what we do. They're not all we do

We service and repair cars and other vans too. So whether it's your work Transit, the family car or something else that's developed a problem, you can still bring it to us. Same workshop, same approach.

Helpful to know: Registration and current mileage help us establish exactly what vehicle you’ve got, particularly for servicing or a wet belt.
Don’t worry if you don’t know what’s wrong with it. Tell us what the vehicle is doing, any warning messages you’ve seen, noises you’ve noticed and when the problem started.

We'll come back to you with what's likely involved. If the van's off the road, ring us instead and we'll sort recovery.
