Ford Transit servicing & repairs in Eastbourne

Transit or Transit Custom? P Hampton Motors looks after working vans every week, from routine servicing and wet belts to turbos, oil pumps, running faults and bigger mechanical repairs.

Servicing and repairs for working Transits

A Transit isn't just transport. It carries your tools, materials and equipment, and it gets you from job to job.

So when it needs servicing or starts doing something it shouldn't, you want somebody who understands working vans and can explain what's actually wrong and what needs doing, without the jargon.

That's what we do for builders, electricians, plumbers, landscapers, sole traders and local businesses running one van or several.

“Tell us what it's doing and we'll work out what's actually wrong.”

You don't need to diagnose it before you call. Tell Phil what the van is doing, any warning lights you've seen and when the problem started.

Got a 2.0
EcoBlue Transit?

We see and work on these engines regularly, in both Transit and Transit Custom vans. Owners tend to come to us with the same few questions, and usually the wet belt is one of them.

On applicable EcoBlue engines, the timing belt runs in engine oil rather than dry. That's why oil and servicing questions matter more on these vans. We cover the belt properly on its own page and in our advice guides, so we won't repeat it all here.

Older Transits too

Phil works on Ford Transits from across the years, not just current vans. If you've got an older Transit, it's just as welcome.

Don't start replacing parts until you know what's wrong

Symptoms overlap. A loss of power doesn't automatically mean it needs a turbo. A warning light doesn't automatically tell you which component has failed. Guessing tends to cost more than finding out.

The right servicing depends on your particular van. How you use it is useful context too, because two Transits on the same mileage can have very different working lives.

Can't get your Transit to the workshop?

P Hampton Motors has its own recovery van. If your Transit has broken down or shouldn't be driven, call Phil and tell him where the van is and what happened. If recovery is appropriate, the van can be brought back to the workshop for diagnosis and repair.

Transits We’ve Been Working On

From routine servicing to bigger mechanical jobs, here’s a look at some of the vans and work going through the workshop.

Phil’s advice

For the relevant wet-belt-equipped vehicles he works on, Phil’s preventative recommendation is to consider replacement at five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

This is Phil’s workshop recommendation. The manufacturer’s schedule depends on the exact vehicle and engine, so send us your registration and mileage if you’re not sure what applies to yours.

Frequently asked questions

Do P Hampton Motors only work on Ford Transits?

No. Transits are a particular focus, but we also service and mechanically repair other cars and vans.

Do you work on Transit Custom vans?

Yes. Transit Custom vans are a big part of the Transit work we see.

Do you work on older Ford Transits?

Yes. The 2.0 EcoBlue gets extra attention on this site because of the questions owners ask about it, but our Transit work isn't limited to that engine. Tell us what you've got.

Do you replace Ford Transit wet belts?

Yes, on applicable vehicles. See Wet Belt Replacement.

Can you service my Ford Transit?

Can you diagnose a Transit that's lost power or has a warning light?

Yes. We diagnose first rather than guessing at parts. Loss of power doesn't automatically mean a turbo, and a warning light doesn't automatically identify the failed component.

Do you repair turbos and oil-pump problems?

Yes, that's part of our mechanical Transit repair work, subject to diagnosing what's actually wrong.

Can you recover my Transit if it has broken down?

We have our own recovery van. Whether we can recover it depends on location and availability, so call Phil and tell him where the van is.

Do you do Transit bodywork?

No. We concentrate on mechanical servicing and repairs, not bodywork or paint.

Tell Phil about your Transit

Give us the registration, mileage and tell us what you need, or simply describe what the van is doing. You don't need to diagnose it yourself.

Helpful to know: Registration and current mileage help us establish exactly what vehicle you’ve got, particularly for servicing or a wet belt.
Don’t worry if you don’t know what’s wrong with it. Tell us what the vehicle is doing, any warning messages you’ve seen, noises you’ve noticed and when the problem started.
